PAW Patrol Live!
An event every day that begins at 12:00am, repeating until April 29, 2017
It’s time for an adventure with rescue puppies Chase, Marshall, Rubble, Rocky, Zuma, Skye and Everest.
It’s the day of the Great Race between Adventure Bay’s Mayor Goodway and Foggy Bottom’s Mayor Humdinger, but Mayor Goodway is nowhere to be found. This theatrical show has the puppies using their unique skills and teamwork to make several heroic rescues on a race to the finish line. Various times. $30-60. Bkgs ess. Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, Riverside Theatre, 21 Mounts Bay Rd, Perth.
CHILD Mags Perth Calendar Editor, Narelle Towie, says:
It is clearly a challenge to bring a kids’ cartoon to life on stage, but thanks to some truly excellent costume work, PAW Patrol Live was a hit the minute the first pup walked into the spotlight.
The storyline rarely matters for these things, but for the record, Race To The Rescue revolved around a goodies-versus-baddies scavenger hunt. It was a slightly tenuous plot device, but it was a useful way to take the PAW Patrol characters to a range of locations, from a mountain snowy cave to the bottom of the sea.
The scenery made ingenious use of a giant video backdrop to bring the various locations to life. Another nice touch was the giant iPad screen props that the characters used to “video chat” each other as the race unfolded.
But the costumes were the true stars, managing to bring Marshall, Chase and the rest of the pups to life in a way that looked surprisingly realistic when considering that we’re talking about cartoon dogs (how do they get all four legs to move when the actors clearly only have two?!).
PAW Patrol Live was obviously going to be a hit when the first of the pups walked onto the stage and a loud WOAH erupted from the crowd. And mine didn’t lose interest as the show went on – which is rare.
The kids unsurprisingly loved it, but the production values were high enough to make it genuinely enjoyable for adults too. There were no grown-up gags snuck into the script for adults to enjoy. Instead, it was the slick production and surprisingly catchy tunes that won the day.
